- Mission
The overall mission of the Department of English is to advance the students understanding of the field of English language and literature through Creative Writing, reading and reviewing Literature, writing for media, and Professional Writing.
For this, the Department of English helps students build knowledge on language and literature studies as core course. It also provides common courses in English for commerce and management, science, arts and social science streams to empower them in English language. In addition, our faculty is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, apparent in courses such as Women's writing, Film Studies, British history, journalism and Indian writing in English.
- Objectives of the Dept.
Teach students to read analytically and critically, write clearly and imaginatively, think logically, and speak articulately about literature and language.
Foster critical literacy, the ability to interpret and evaluate
Spreading knowledge of culture, traditions and human civilisations.
Impart a historical belonging of English language and literatures in English in our diverse society from British rule to present era.
Prepare the students how the expressive and analytical skills they acquire in the study of English enable them to face modern employment challenges.
