This code of conduct is designed to provide an explicit definition of the minimal standards of personal conduct that the Farook Arts and Science College expects of its students. It represents, for the College, a benchmark of expectations regarding students, and defines the boundaries within which a rewarding and mutually supportive learning environment can be created. It is based on the assumption that most students in the College already uphold these statements of conduct and can, without reservation, endorse them.
The College’s approach to discipline is an educative one aimed at helping students to understand their behaviour and its impact on others.
This policy is to prescribe those standards of personal conduct for students and specify procedures associated with disciplinary actions. These procedures apply to all students. The following list is not all-inclusive of prohibited behaviours; but serves as a guideline.
1. Acts of dishonesty, including but not limited to the following:
a. Cheating, Plagiarism, impersonation or other forms of academic dishonesty.
b. Furnishing false information or failing to provide truthful information to any college official or faculty member.
c. Forgery, alternation, or misuse of any college document, record, or instrument of identification.
d. Tampering with the college union election.
2. Disruption or obstruction of the teaching learning process, project works, administration, disciplinary proceedings, other college activities, including its public functions on or off-campus, or other authorized non-college activities, or when the act occurs on college premises or at campus-sponsored activities.
3. Physical abuse, ragging, verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, harassment, correction, and/or other conduct, which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any member of the college community. (special anti ragging rules appended in the following pages).
4. Attempted or actual theft of and/or damage to property of the college (including library/lab materials) or property of a member of the college community or other personal or public property.
5. Hazing, defined as an act which endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or which destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation, admission into or affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in a group of banned organization or banned activity.
6. Failure to comply with directions of college officials on Anti ragging, Anti Harassment, or failure to identify oneself to these persons when requested to do so.
7. Unauthorized possession, duplication, or use of keys to any college premises or unauthorized entry to or use of college premises.
8. Unauthorized access, use, or disclosure of records or information of any members of the college community.
9. Violation of published college policies, programme rules, or regulations (i.e., including parking; motor vehicle movement).
10. Violation of central, state, or local bodies law on college premises or at college-sponsored or college supervised activities.
11. Use, possession or distribution of narcotics or other controlled substances.
12. Use, possession or distribution of alcoholic beverages.
13. Possession and use of firearms, explosives, other weapons, or dangerous chemical agents on college premise.
14. Participation in a campus demonstration that disrupts the normal operations of the College and infringes on the rights of other college community members, leading or inciting others to disrupt scheduled and/or normal activities within any campus building or area. Students have the right to organize. Union activities should not disrupt normal college operations.
15. Obstruction of the free flow of pedestrian or vehicular traffic on college premises or at college - sponsored or supervised functions.
16. Conduct which is disorderly, obscene, lewd, or indecent; breach of peace; or aiding and abetting; or procuring another person to breach the peace on college premises or at functions sponsored by, or participated by the College.
17. Unlawful or unauthorized use of College’s computer system or network,lab/library.
18. Improper use of copyrighted materials.
19. Theft or other abuse of computers including but not limited to:
a. Unauthorized entry into a file to use, read, or change the contents, or for any other purpose.
b. Unauthorized use of another individual’s identification and password.
c. Use of computing facilities to send or received obscene or abusive massages.
d. Use of computing facilities to interfere with normal operation of the College computing system or any other computing system.
20. Abuse of the judicial system, including but not limited to:
a. Failure to obey the summons of a discipline, anti-ragging, complaints & grievance redressal committee or college official.
b. Falsification, distortion, or misrepresentation of information before discipline, anti-ragging or complaints & Grievance redressal committee.
c. Disruption or interference of a judicial proceeding.
d. Attempting to discourage an individual’s proper participation in, or use of, the judicial system.
e. Attempting to influence the impartiality of a member of a discipline committee, anti-ragging committee, Complaints & Grievance Redressal Committee or any other committee designated to bring discipline, prior to, and/or during the course of the judicial proceeding.
f. Harassment (verbal or physical) and/or intimidation of a member of a student discipline committee or grievance redressal committee or a witness or victim prior to, during, and/or after a judicial proceeding.
g. Failure to comply with the disciplinary action imposed under the student code of conduct.
21. Behaviour of the Students
a. Groupism of any kind that would distort the harmony is not permitted.
b. Students are expected to spend their free time in the Library / Reading Room. They shall not loiter along the verandas or crowd in front of the offices or the Campus roads.
c. Students should refrain from sitting on places such as parapets, stairs, footpaths etc.
d. Students are strictly prohibited in sitting, crowding in, higher secondary or high school premises.
e. Silence shall be maintained in the premises of the college.
f. Students are not permitted to use mobile phones in the Farook campus premises.
g. Students shall not indulge in any undesirable activity and shall maintain highest standard of discipline and show courtesy towards the staff and students of other institutions of FES.
h. Students are prohibited from indulging in anti-institutional,anti-national, antisocial, communal, immoral or political expressions and activities within the Campus.
i. Politically based student organizations or outfits are not allowed in the Campus.
j. Students are strictly prohibited from organizing, attending or participating in any activity or agitation sponsored by politically based organizations.
k. Students shall not deface, disfigure, damage or destroy or cause any loss in any manner for public, private or college properties for campaigning of any sort.
l. Unauthorized entry of outsiders into the campus is strictly prohibited.
m. Without specific permission of the authorities, students shall not bring outsiders to the campus.
n. No one shall bring, distribute or circulate unauthorized notices, pamphlets, leaflets etc within the Campus. The possession, distribution or exhibition of any item by any means which is per se obscene is prohibited within the Campus.
o. No one shall exhibit any type of banners, flags, boards etc. inside the campus, gates, buildings or on the compound walls.No student shall collect money either by request or by coercion from others within the campus.
p. The College being a place of learning and an exclusive academic zone, nobody shall respond to any call for any form of strike, procession or agitation including slogan shouting, dharna, gherao, burning in effigy or indulge in anything which may harm the peaceful atmosphere of the college and shall eschew from violence in the Campus and even outside.
q. Engaging in gherao, keeping under captivity or illegally confining any official of the Institute is prohibited.
r. No student shall exert undue influence on fellow students.
s. Students charged with criminal offence or under suspension shall not enter the Campus without the permission of the competent authority.
t. Any case of criminal activity or violation of law and order in the Campus will be reported to the police.
u. Students shall only use the waste bins for dispensing waste materials within the Campus including classrooms, hostels, offices and canteen.
v. Any conduct which leads to lowering of the esteem of the college is prohibited.
w. Any other violation of the right of any member of the college community as deemed by the DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE (DC).
